From the Editors
The year 2007 is a transformational one for us as the Journal of Earthquake
Engineering and Engineering Vibration changes from a semi-annual to a quarterly
schedule and is published by Springer Verlag. Beginning with Vol. 6, No. 1, four
issues of about 100 pages each will be published each year. The journal will
continue to be available in print format, and a new electronic offering will be
accessible through SpringerLink, Springer’s Internet portal. We believe that
this change will further our goal of promoting scientific exchange between
China, the United States and the international community and we look forward to
working with Springer in the coming years.
Our efforts have also achieved recognition in several prominent sources of
information, including the Cambridge Science Abstracts (CSA), Engineering Index
(EI)/Compendex, Earthquake Engineering Abstracts, Geological Abstracts, Georef,
Geotechnical Abstracts, International Civil Engineering Abstracts, Quakeline,
Shock and Vibration Digest, Technology Information Institute of China Wan Fang
data-digital periodicals, and the Transportation Research Information Service.
We hope that this exposure, together with Springer Verlag’s extensive
distribution network, will help to accelerate knowledge transfer among the
international community.
We thank the managing editors, Dr. Jianguo Xiong and Ms. Jane Stoyle, for their
fine effort and commitment to the success of the Journal. They have made a
substantial effort to ensure that non-native English speaking authors present
their ideas in a clear and correct manner by professionally editing each
submission. We also thank the contributing authors for offering us their
outstanding knowledge in the field of earthquake engineering and engineering
vibration.
Today’s engineers are in a unique position to deal with multiple hazard
protection of buildings, bridges and infrastructure systems and to deliver
“smart” constructed facilities to better serve society. In the coming years, we
hope to expand the earthquake engineering knowledge base in principles,
approaches and technologies to encompass these new areas. We believe that our
journal can play a significant role in enhancing the rapid realization of this
new vision. With this belief and objective in mind, we sincerely invite future
contributions in smart structure technologies, high performance buildings and
bridges, and multiple hazard resilient communities.
