From the Editors
As the Journal of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration
enters its fourth year of publication, we believe the first six issues are on
the right track toward promoting scientific exchange between China, the United
States and the international community. Our contributors have hailed from many
countries throughout the world including Canada, China, Greece, Italy, India,
Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Turkey and the United States.
In this short time, our efforts have achieved recognition in several
prominent sources of information, including the Engineering Index (EI)/Compendex
(as of July 2004, all papers from the journal’s inception and continuing into
the future will be included in EI), as well as Earthquake Engineering Abstracts,
Geological Abstracts, Georef, Geotechnical Abstracts, International Civil
Engineering Abstracts, Quakeline, Shock and Vibration Digest, Technology
Information Institute of China Wan Fang data-digital periodicals, and the
Transportation Research Information Service. We hope that this exposure will
help to accelerate knowledge transfer among the international community.
We thank the managing editors, Dr. Jianguo Xiong and Ms. Jane Stoyle, for
their fine effort and commitment to the success of the Journal. They have made a
substantial effort to ensure that non-native English speaking authors present
their ideas in a clear and correct manner by professionally editing each
submission. We also thank the contributing authors for offering us their
outstanding knowledge in the field of earthquake engineering and engineering
vibration.
Today’s engineers are in a unique position to deal with multiple hazard
protection of buildings and infrastructure systems and to deliver “smart”
constructed facilities to better serve society. In the coming years, we hope to
expand the earthquake engineering knowledge base in principles, approaches and
technologies to encompass these new areas. We believe that our journal can play
a significant role in enhancing the rapid realization of this new vision. With
this belief and objective in mind, we sincerely invite future contributions in
smart structure technologies and multiple hazard resilient communities.
